Academic Eligibility for Athletics & Activities

Get the answers here!
My child failed French last year. Is he still ineligible?

All students participating in co-curricular activities must meet the academic requirements in order to participate in games. The eligibility is based on four marking periods. Failure to maintain a 70% average and a passing grade (65 or higher) in ALL courses will result in a (3) three-week probation period that will start the day report cards are released. Participants are encouraged to practice and attend games during this probation period, but are not allowed to suit up or play in games.

a. Fall season eligibility is based on the second semester final grades of the previous year.
b. Winter season eligibility is based on the first quarter and first semester final grades.
c. Spring season eligibility is based on the third quarter grades.

I failed a course last spring, but I received academic credit by completing and passing the course over the summer. Will I be eligible to play sports in the fall?

No. Completing and passing a summer course will give you the academic credit you need, but it will have no impact on fall season academic eligibility. Fall academic eligibility is based only on a student’s final second semester grade. Since ALL courses are not offered during the summer for make up, it was decided from an equity standpoint that passing summer classes could not be used to become eligible for sports.

How does my child become academically eligible after the three-week probation period?

After the three-week period, the ineligible student must get an Academic Eligibility Report sheet from the Activities office and complete it with a teacher’s signature for each course, verifying that the student is passing all classes at that present time. If the student has not me eligibility requirements (passing ALL classes), probation continues until requirements are met.
