Amatuer Status

My son wants to play in a 3-on-3 basketball tournament which is offering prize money. Is this okay?

Students will lose their amateur status in the sport involved if they accept any money, whether for participation or as a prize for competition. Amateurs may not participate on a professional team, or on a team where members of the team are receiving remuneration for their athletic services. Students who lose amateur status in one sport do not lose it in other sports.
